Stay at the Hakuba Tokyu Hotel and Experience the Great Outdoors of Japan's Northern Alps this Summer!

The town of Hakuba has held a fascination for skiers from around the world since it played host to the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Hakuba is surrounded by the Northern Japan Alps and is a place where skiers, from beginners to experts, can come and enjoy skiing in one of 10 ski areas. Once winter's snows fade, Hakuba enjoys a lush green revival, transforming into one of Japan's premier summer destinations with plenty of exciting outdoor activities like whitewater rafting, bouldering, and climbing.

Hakuba is home to the well-known Hakuba Tokyu Hotel: a top-class resort-style hotel with a 50-year history. With superb views of the Northern Alps from the guest room balconies, lavish French and Japanese cuisine made using local ingredients, and a large public hot spring bath that leaves your skin feeling silky smooth, this elegant, modern European-style hotel allows guests to get the most out of their summer vacation.

Come and try trekking and other outdoor activities in Hakuba this summer!

To help guests from abroad get the absolute best out of Hakuba in summer, the Hakuba Tokyu Hotel runs an outdoor activities program with instructors from English-speaking countries.

Nature Walking/Hiking & Trekking

Traverse the Northern Alps on a multi-day trek, enjoy the scenery on a one-day cable-car accessed hike or take a half-day stroll to the natural Princess River Spring. Different seasons bring an array of different colors, foliage and wildlife. Treks can be planned to suit your needs.

Hakuba's famous Princess River (technical class 2) boasts fantastic views of the Northern Alps Mountain Range. Head out early in the season (1 May - 10 July) to get the best of the snow-melt white water.

The beautiful and thrilling Kamoshika Canyon was formed over millennia by the coming together of natural forces. Enjoy this natural wonder by swimming, jumping, abseiling, and using ropes and cascading down its white-water chutes. An amazing way to spend an otherwise sweltering hot summer's day!

Kayaking/Canadian Canoeing

Enjoy a relaxing 2-hour paddle across the pristine waters of the Blue Trek Lake, known in Japanese as Aokiko. See breathtaking views of the Northern Alps, lots of waterfowl, fish, and possibly even bears and kamoshika drinking from one of Japan's purest lakes. This is the perfect activity for families with young children, seniors, couples and those simply looking for a chance to feel refreshed. Picnic tours and multi-day down-river tours are also available.

Mountain biking

Hakuba and the surrounding Nagano region are rich in both exciting mountain bike trails and scenic courses for relaxing rides. The Hakuba area offers something for all ages, abilities and appetites with half-day fun-rides and downhill options, half- or full-day free-rides, and even tailored multi-day tours.

Climbing and bouldering walls, multi-pitch granite climbs and multi-day climbs into alpine country; Hakuba and its surrounding areas have something to push every level. All gear is supplied and safety is always our number one priority.
