Golden Week holiday season
In Japan, the period from end of April to beginning of May is usually called as the Golden Week, which consists of a combination of four national holidays;
April 29, Showa Day (Showa no hi)
This National Holiday commemorates the Birthday of Showa Emperor who died in 1989
After the Emperor's death in 1989, this day was formerly renamed as "Greenery Day" and this until this year 2007.
May 3, Constitution Memorial Day (Kenpo kinen bi)
On this day 1947, the new post war constitution was established.
May 4, "Greenery Day" (Midori no hi)
From Showa Emperor's death in 1989 and until 2007, "Greenery Day" used to be honored on April 29th.
In reference to the Emperor's love for plants, this holiday is generally devoted to nature and the environment.
May 5th, Children's Day (Kodomo no hi)
From Showa Emperor's death in 1989 and until 2007, "Greenery Day" used to be honored on April 29th.
Children's Day celebrated on May 5th and originally called "Tango no Sekku" the Boy's Festival (also known as Feast of Banners) is a moment where families usually hang up carp-like streamers made of paper or cloth for their sons and display warrior dolls as a tribute for constant happiness to their children
As the Golden Week is considered as the longest vacation period of the year for Japanese people, it is absolutely no surprise to see most of them being very active and traveling some time off by themselves or with relatives around that season.
As the demand is very high, please try and look for booking availability through JAPANiCAN.COM. And please note that some Sunrise Tours will not be operated during this holiday, so make sure to your tour dates.
If you can't find anything available, we recommend you to travel just after the Golden Week. Enjoy sunshine and breeze!
